About Ponui Island

Ponui Island is a privately-owned working farm island in the Hauraki Gulf, around 35 km from Auckland. The Chamberlin family has farmed the island continuously since 1853 — making it one of New Zealand’s longest-running family farm properties.

David and Di Chamberlin farm the south end of the island. David is the fifth generation of Chamberlins on Ponui, continuing a tradition of stewardship that has shaped the island’s landscape and character.

Ponui is also one of New Zealand’s most successful kiwi sanctuaries, with a thriving kiwi population. The island is excellent for walking, cycling, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. No dogs or other pets are permitted anywhere on the island.
